Funded Childcare

Important Information

Funded Childcare

The amount of funding available depends on your child’s age, your family’s eligibility and whether care is taken All Year or Term Time Only.

Children from 9 months – Working Parent Entitlement

  • All-Year care: up to 22.35 funded hours per week.
  • Term-Time Only care: up to 30 funded hours per week.

Children aged 3 and 4 – universal entitlement

  • All-Year care: up to 11.17 funded hours per week.
  • Term-Time Only care: up to 15 funded hours per week.
  • Eligible working families may receive up to 22.35 hours All Year or 30 hours Term Time Only, as shown in the fee tables.

Early Learning for 2-year-olds

Some two-year-olds can receive up to 15 hours of funded early learning each week, or 570 hours across the year. This offer was previously sometimes described as the ‘disadvantaged’ two-year-old offer. Eligibility is based on family circumstances or the child’s individual circumstances, and families can check the criteria and apply through Brighton & Hove City Council.

Find out more and apply: Early Learning for 2 year olds – Brighton & Hove City Council

Working Parent Entitlement

Eligible working parents may be able to access funded childcare from the term after their child reaches the relevant age. Families should use the government’s Best Start in Life service to check the current entitlement rules, find out when funding can begin and apply for or reconfirm their childcare code.

Check your entitlement: Childcare & Early Years Education – Best Start in Life

How funded hours work at ActiveKids

  • Standalone funded sessions are available from 8:00am-3:30pm, Monday to Thursday, during term time only and subject to availability.
  • Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • When funding is used alongside paid childcare, a maximum of six funded hours can be used per nursery day.
  • Children attending fewer days will use fewer funded hours.

Using funded hours without additional charges

If you wish to access funded-hours-only sessions, families will be offered a reasonable alternative to paying for meals, nappies and other optional extras. Please talk to the nursery about the arrangements available.

Help with childcare costs

Tax-Free Childcare

Eligible working parents, including those who are self-employed, can reduce their childcare costs using the government’s Tax-Free Childcare scheme. For every £8 paid into a childcare account, the government adds £2, subject to the scheme limits.

Find out more: Tax-Free Childcare – GOV.UK

We also accept childcare vouchers- speak to our team for more information.
