At Active Kids Nursery Hove we are committed to ensuring that all children in our nursery are given a good understanding of healthy eating and enjoy a variety of foods

Here at Active Kids Nursery Hove, we are committed to ensuring that all children in our nursery are given a good understanding of healthy eating and enjoy a variety of foods. We aim to do this by providing nutritious meals and encouraging the children to question what goes in to their food, via teaching them about different ingredients and food groups.

The cost of all meals, drinks and snacks that are freshly prepared on the premises are included in our sessions, you will find no hidden extras here at Active Kids Nursery Hangleton.

(Please note that we charge extra for meals if your child attends only funded sessions as this is not currently covered by B&H City Council)

Our breakfast is served between 8am and 8.30am each morning making sure that all choices are low in sugar and whole meal/multigrain wherever possible. The children’s favorites include Baby Cereals, Multigrain Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Weetabix and Cornflakes. Children also enjoy toast with dairy free Butter and raspberry jam. Along with plenty of fresh milk – including full fat, semi-skimmed, Lacto-free, Coco milk, Soya milk or Goats milk (Options are available for children dietary requirements and parents preferences)

Snack here at Active kids Nursery is offered around 10am each day. Children are encouraged to get involved and special helpers can come in the kitchen to help and prepare snack for their friends. This is a great opportunity to find out what their favorite fruit and vegetables are at home too. The children are also involved in setting up the snack table and then offered the opportunity to come and chose their fruit or vegetables and a cracker with gluten free options available also.

We do not call children for snack as we don’t want to stop them from playing. They may be deeply involved in an activity and we wouldn’t like them to stop learning just to come and have snack. However children who do not make the choice to come to a snack table will be asked by member of staff if they would like any.

Good nutrition is an essential element of mental and physical development in the early years, and therefore we ensure that they are given a well-balanced diet. All our meals are cooked from scratch with fresh ingredients and where possible in season vegetables by our cooks Monika and Renata. Our hot lunch is served at 12 noon followed by a home-made low sugar dessert.

Fruit Break

Children who attend the afternoon session will be invited to join us to prepare the fruit which we serve around 3pm. This is again like our morning snack break, which is set up on the snack table and the children are able to chose fruit in their own time.

Afternoon Tea

Around 4pm we serve freshly prepared frittata, meatballs, quiche, Greek salad or tomato cheese swirls to name a few. Freshly made sandwiches prepared with fillings like soft cheese and shredded carrots, houmous, meat free ham or marmite are always on offer. We aim follow our weekly menu but sometimes we do make different choices if the children ask for something else as here at Active Kids Nursery Hove we like to promote choice but also aim for children to try new healthy foods.

Food Allergies and Special dietary requirements

Here at Active Kids Nursery we are happy to accommodate children with food allergies, intolerances and any special requirements like Halal, Lacto-free, Dairy Free, Wheat and Gluten Free, Vegetarian simply because we cook all our own food allowing us to vary the diet and ensure allergies are catered for safely.

We pride ourselves on not using any packet food or jars, but cooking real old fashioned home cooked meals from scratch and adapting any recipes to our children’s needs.

We aim to provide Infant formula for babies under a year old who attend more than three sessions a week, however due opened tins needing to be thrown away after 2 weeks, if we can’t accommodate this we will encourage parents to provide their own formula on daily basis.

At Active Kids Nursery we understand that breast milk is the best option for babies in their early years, therefore we encourage and support parents to continue to breastfeed for as long as possible, even after their return to work. Breast milk can be stored in our fridge in the Baby room or freezer which can be defrosted for your baby as needed. All bottles are labeled with baby’s name and dated to ensure their freshness.

Here at Active Kids Nursery Hangleton we will fully support any parent going through the weaning process. We work closely with parents knowing that milk provides all the nutrients your baby needs for the first six months or so, however we appreciate some babies maybe ready before that.

We will not provide any solid foods until you let us know that your baby has started to eat solids at home and we will follow your guidelines. We only give your baby vegetable and fruit that you have tried at home and we never introduce new taste for your little one unless they are stable on solid food. We will aim to support all children to move onto our main menu alongside the other children so they feel comfortable when trying new foods being surrounded by their carers and friends.

Our staff’s priority is to provide a friendly atmosphere for both children and parents.

Play Areas

We ensure that play areas are setup each day to reinforce different areas of the EYFS and promote your child’s development.

All our staff are fully qualified and trained in every aspect of the EYFS.

We draw from a variety of educational teaching styles including The Montessori Approach, The Waldorf Approach and The Reggio Emilia Approach.

When planning our ratios we always ensure that experienced staff members accompany junior ones.

If Children under the age of 6 years are gently encouraged to learn through interesting games, they pick up skills that will help them maintain an edge through their lives.
